Last in a five-part series in which leaders in the bloodiest conflict in Europe since the Second World War explain the chain of events leading to the collapse of Yugoslavia.
This is the story of three years of international failure in Bosnia. The main participants tell how promises to the Bosnian Muslims were made and broken, how the decision by the international community not to use military force strengthened the position of the all-powerful Bosnian Serbs. The Americans then describe how they decided the only way to break the deadlock was to give full backing to President Tudjman of Croatia and to talk him into forming an alliance with the Bosnian Muslims - even though Muslim blood was fresh on his hands.
