Saturday Cinema Double Bill: Return to the Edge of the World

on BBC Two England

begins a season of films celebrating the 80th birthday of the British director
Michael Powell.
In 1937 Powell made a feature film - The Edge of the World - entirely on location on the remote
Shetland Island of Foula. The story was inspired by the evacuation of the Island of St Kilda. In 1978 he returned to Foula to see what changes had occurred and made an introduction and epilogue for the original film.

A story of high intrigue set in the remote
Scottish Orkney islands during World War I, where a U-boat captain, a schoolmistress and a disgraced British naval lieutenant plot to sink the British fleet. But a jealous rivalry sets in between the two men over their beautiful ally.
