The Man from Auntie

on BBC One London

Many people lay claim to fathering the alternative comedy movement, but few have such right as Ben Elton, the archetypal alternative stand-up whose non-sexist, non-racist, left-wing routines and sparkling "Sellafield" suit rewrote the rules of 80s humour. The suit has gone, but Elton Is back with a new series of observations and, of course, a little bit of politics. Elton fearlessly tackles the government on such issues as: "Is there a secret ministry for crap design, especially for such things as teapots in motorway service stations, which are made of super heat-conducting metal so you can't pick them up until the tea has gone cold?".
