1914: Paul Baumer , a young sensitive German, enlists in the army, fired with patriotism and a belief in the ideals of his nation. Befriended by a veteran soldier, he quickly becomes disillusioned as he discovers the degradations and terrors of war. Tonight's version is the most complete known to exist, including original tinted sequences from a contemporary print.
