Twenty-five Britons died in the Gulf War. Ten times as many are killed on Britain's motorways every year, yet these are among our safest roads. Despite huge investment by the government and the motor industry, the carnage continues unabated. Another brand new motorway, the M40, has just opened and more are planned.
