On 30 September 1973, 18-year-old Peter Reilly was accused of the brutal murder of his mother. After interrogation Peter signed a confession, which he later renounced. This powerful film depicts the aftermath of these tragic events when the small Connecticut township in which Peter grew up came to his defence. Based on one of the most controversial and harrowing cases in American legal history, the film marked British director Tony Richardson's US television debut
