Sarah Richards is distinguished from her fellow pupils at Garsfield College by her fear and dislike of the new teaching machines. However, when the supervisor, Stephen Kershaw, rearranges the machines to conform with revised fire regulations, it creates a terrifying situation that even Sarah did not foresee.
