D-Day 60

on BBC One London

Huw Edwards introduces live coverage of a commemorative ceremony overlooking the Normandy beaches, featuring heads of state from 17 nations, including the Queen, Jacques Chirac, US president George Bush and - for the first time at a D-Day event - Germany's Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder.
At 2.30, a march by veterans past their respective leaders is followed by the presentation of the Legion d'Honneur and an address by President Chirac. Plus military displays from the Red Arrows and the Patrouille de France, a naval review and fly-past, archive film of the Second World War, and a tribute by the Prince of Wales to the airborne forces of D-Day.
At 5.00, a parade by British ex-servicemen through the town of Arromanches is followed by the Queen's address.
Commentary from James Naughtie and Colonel John Hughes-Wilson.
Highlights of the day at 10.55pm.
