David Small's interest in heathers has led to the establishment of a thriving specialist nursery, not only providing local employment but also a wide range of heather varieties, including the species Cape Heather. With a soil pH of around eight, fits ovun garden is hardly suitable for growing heathers and yet, by using peat beds and sulphate of iron, he has succeeded in growing riot only heathers, but the acid-loving callunas.
