The Money Programme looks at Green Power in the Ghetto
Introduced by Brian Widlake, Graham Turner
with William Davis, John Tusa
In pre-election America racial violence is a frightening reality. For the last three or four years the concept of Black Power has gathered momentum and found political expression through such organised militant groups as the Black Panthers.
Complementing, and to a certain extent replacing, the concept of Black Power is the new force of Green Power - the realisation that the gift of money-making is not the white man's prerogative; that entrepreneurship can also be acquired by a black man. Gradually the ghettos, like New York's Harlem, are establishing black banks, black businesses, and black business consultants. If you can't beat them, join them - and win. For a growing number of black Americans Green Power - the power of the dollar - is the new way to equality.
