Jim Wilson , a police lieutenant in a corrupt resort town, is tired of the brutal grind of his work and is about to leave for lighter duties elsewhere. But on his last day in the force, a violent situation erupts. Janie, a bar singer, is taken hostage by her ex-lover Frank, whom she has left for another man.
After Frank shoots a policeman, a large-scale siege develops. The title song,
Alone Am I, is performed by 60s balladeer Matt Monro.
