A television play by Philip Mackie.
[Starring] Griffith Jones and Sarah Lawson
The action takes place at the Paultons' home in North-West London.
A murder mystery such as this is a four-cornered battle of wits between the murderer, the law, the author, and the audience. But the ingredients may be divulged without loss of suspense: thus, in the course of one eventful evening, a number of people call at the Hampstead home of Lewis and Brenda Paulton. Lewis is a film producer, successful, charming, in his middle-thirties; Brenda is beautiful and some years younger; on the face of it, theirs is a perfectly happy marriage. But then the visitors start to call, among them the police, and life with the Paultons ceases to be tranquil. Mr. Mackie has more than one turn-and-turnabout surprise up his sleeve, so it will not do to say more about the plot, but there is a murder, and in the matter of solving it, viewers may test for themselves whether they are as observant as the Paultons' Dutch maid, Deenie.
