Having come close to retiring from snooker entirely, Small battled a painful degenerative spinal condition as he recorded memorable wins over Ronnie O'Sullivan and John Higgins , on his way to meeting and beating fellow Scot Alan McManus in the final. This year, world number one Mark Williams , holder of the world, UK and Masters crowns will be seeking to add the first title of the new tour to his collection.
