In the vast gulag of Kolyma, one woman wrote with astonishing clarity of her mental and physical chains. Nina Hagen-Torn, a daring ethnographer and free thinker, was arrested twice - in 1937 and 1947. Her striking work was unknown and unpublished until very recently.
