Yanomama: The Sons of Blood
Narrated by DAVID ATTENBOROUGH ' This is how the first Yanomama were born. Suhirina took an arrow and shot it at the spirit of the moon. The wound bled profusely, and as the blood hit the earth each drop turned into a man. The Yanomama are proud that their forefathers were born in blood.'
This is the legend that describes the origins of the Yanomama Indians, who live in southern Venezuela and northern Brazil. Their lives are surrounded by violence and warfare. And to help them face their violent physical and spiritual world they use drugs. Drugs are as important to the Yanomama as food and drink, and they end each day with a drug session that is used to bring them closer to their gods and each other.
