The Wednesday Play: The Gorge

on BBC Two England

The season of classic BBC plays from the 60s and 70s continues with Peter Nichols's comedy about the great British picnic, with music by Manfred Mann and Mike Hugg. Equipped with all the paraphernalia - cine-camera, transistor radio, barbecued chicken, fold-up kitchen sink - a Bristol family braves the rural traffic jams for a spot of al fresco over-indulgence. Cynical teenage son Mike sneers at it all but, when he wanders off into the bracken for a little romantic diversion, does he know what to expect?
