Ferenc Farkas , who was fifty-one last December, is one of the best-known figures in the modern musical scene in Hungary. A pupil of Respighi, be is an extravert composer, whose music appeals to a wide audience: his works include an opera, The Magic Cupboard, a Symphony, and much music for the theatre
— and for films (including incidental music to several of Shakespeare's plays).
His ballet The Sly Students was produced at the Hungarian State Opera in Budapest in 1949. The movements are: Fair in Debrecen, Air de danse, Students' Dance, Gypsy music, Pas de deux, and Finale. Deryck Cooke
