The last of nine films about arts and crafts in Britain today. Dorothy Bohm
'I can never, even after all these years, release the shutter haphazardly. When I release it, I have got to feel " this is it ".'
DOROTHY BOHM came to England in 1939 from the Baltic States. She studied photography at the Manchester College of Technology and at the age of 21 became a successful portrait photographer. When she began using natural light, each picture became for her a fragment of the ever-changing imagery that she wanted to possess. A photograph is made in a fraction of a second. The film examines what happens in that second, both to the photographer and the person being photographed.
