Taking Liberties

on BBC Two England

Eight films in which
David Jessel reports on the cases of people whose lives have been shattered by injustice. On Doctor's Orders
The newspapers are full of stories about children being taken from their families when child abuse is suspected. But many families have experienced the frightening powers of the child protection machinery, only to be found innocent of wrongdoing at the end of a shattering ordeal. The evidence that triggered the investigation might only have been hearsay, a telephone call or a doctor's mistaken opinion. For those families, the policy of better safe than sorry in the care of children means being treated as guilty until proven innocent. Producer Kevin Sutcliffe
