Anne Ross , who lectures In Celtic Studies at Southampton University, looks at the character of Caractacus against the background of his dramatic struggles with the Romans. He resisted the Emperor Claudius' invasion of Britain in AD 43. but nine years later, betrayed by Cartimandua. Queen of the Brigantes of Yorkshire, he was taken to Rome in captivity.
