First showing on network television.
Continuing the Africa on Film season. Troops from French West Africa returning from the battlefields of Europe in 1944 are quartered at Camp de Thiaroye in Senegal, awaiting honourable discharge and back pay. Once there, they find the treatment they receive at the hands of the French officers intolerable.
Made by Ousmane Sembene , the father of African cinema, this powerful indictment of colonial attitudes is based on a true story and aroused initial hostility in France. A Senegalese film with English subtitles.
