What Makes Rabbit Run?
John Updike 's new book Bech is Back is just out. Last summer his previous novel Rabbit is Rich won the 1982 Pulitzer Prize. At 50, the author of Rabbit Run, Couples and The Coup is at the height of his powers and reputation.
Art, sex and religion: he has described these as the Three Great Secret Things. Tonight he looks at his own life and art in the light of his strictly religious Pennsylvania past and wonders about the drives that make Rabbit run.
