Jazz on 3

on BBC Radio 3

Simon Fell
This week's show is given over to the broadcast debut of Thirteen Rectangles by Simon H Fell. Inspired by the painting of the same name by Kandinsky, the piece combines written passages with sequences of improvisation. It is performed in session by the Simon Fell Quintet, with Gail Brand on trombone, Alex Ward on clarinet, Alex Maguire on piano, Steve Noble on percussion and the composer on bass. You can also watch a film of the entire performance at Jazz On 3's website: www.bbc.co.uk/radio3/jazz/jon3.
