Romantic drama set in the late fifties, starring
Whoopi Goldberg and Ray Liotta. Recently widowed Manny Singer advertises for a housekeeper to care for Molly, his seven-year-old daughter who has been mute since her mother's death. The job eventually goes to black college graduate Corrina Washington, unable to find other work in a climate of racial prejudice. Corinna gradually gains the trust of the child and coaxes her to talk again, but it is Molly who has plans for her father and her new nanny.
