Richard Baker introduces the annual concert live from Vienna's Musikverein.
This year, the traditional programme of music by the Strauss family is conducted by one of the world's greatest interpreters of the Viennese repertoire, Carlos Kleiber. His television appearances are very rare and the second half of this traditional Viennese event promises to be one of the musical highlights of 1989. In two of the dances the Ballet of the Vienna State Opera performs specially created choreography by GERUNDE DILL in one of Vienna's beautiful castles. Directed by BRIAN LARGE
