Rhythms of the World Special: The Ballad of Ewan MacColl

on BBC Two England

Ewan MacColl (1915-89) was a true 'working class hero'. Born in the backstreets of Salford, he is best known as a singer and songwriter with songs like Dirty Old Town. But he was also an accomplished actor and playwright, and with his third wife, Peggy Seeger, led the folk revival of the 50s - an international movement that has influenced singer-songwriters from Bob Dylan to Tracey Chapman.
