A discussion on child sterilisation Recent cases involving sterilisation of children under 16 have raised important questions about their rights. At present parents take the decision to sterilise in consultation with the doctor. But do doctors pressure parents too much, and is their advice adequate? Should parents also be advised by psychologists, teachers, social workers and even lawyers? Should parents even have such unquestioned power over their child's future?
These issues will be discussed by a specially invited audience at the Royal Institution under the chairmanship of Professor Sir George Porter , FRS Among those taking part will be Michael Brudenell consultant gynaecologist Dr Jack Bavin consultant psychiatrist
