The Schools

on BBC Television

As they appear to people who teach in them.
Written and produced by Richard Cawston.

This wide-ranging documentary examines the complex school system of England and Wales. It shows the teachers at work in a great variety of schools and it gives their views on such controversial issues as: The Eleven-Plus, The Secondary Modern and the Grammar, The Public Schools, Preparatory Schools, Comprehensive Schools, How to Teach, Discipline, Co-Education and What Sort of School System Do We Really Want?
There is no commentary, there are no actors. Eighty-five practising teachers take part: theirs are the only views expressed.
