Two years ago an expedition discovered the long-lost site of the Assassins' fortress, Maymun Diz, in the wild Elburz mountains in northern Persia.
Recently the Stobart-Izzard expedition, searching for evidence of this murderous and fanatical sect, climbed into their cave-perhaps the first people to make the ascent for hundreds of years, since the Assassins were massacred by their enemies the Mongols.
