At this stage last year Scotland's Colin Montgomerie was enjoying a joint-lead position in the standings after a period of inspired approach play signalled a return to form and propelled him into contention. Although Argentina's Angel Cabrera eventually won the title,
Montgomerie went on to take a leading role in Europe's Ryder Cup victory at the same venue later in the year, and he will be eager to demonstrate a similar strength of form as this year's Open approaches the cut. Introduced by Steve Rider.
