Founded by Peter Gabriel in the eighties, Womad (World of Music and Dance) celebrates its tenth year at
Reading's Rivermead site. Highlights include La Bottine Souriante from
Quebec; the Jamaican jazz guitar of Ernest Ranglin ; gospel music from the Blind Boys of Alabama; Sufi music with Rizwan Qawwali ; Cuban son from
Colombian singer Toto La Momposina; and Afro-soul from Nigeria's Femi Kuti. The festival also plays host to the BBC Concert Orchestra performing a shakuhachi concerto with Japanese musician Joji Hirota.
