In the third of six programmes, travelling chef Gary Rhodes visits Orkney where he cooks up his gastronomic treats in a solitary cottage on Inner Holm, one of the smallest of the Orkney islands. Having hitched a lift to the island with the Stromness lifeboat crew, he prepares ox-cheek stew with caramelised shallots and clapshot, a local favourite made from Orcadian swede and potato puree. On the trail of scallops he takes a rough ride on a fishing boat past the Old Man of Hoy - and gets a drenching only worthwhile for the resulting dish, scallops with fennel salad. To complete the menu he uses plenty of Orkney's most abundant fruit, rhubarb, with lemons to create a sponge served with a rhubarb sauce and custard.
