Leading international musicians join the London Symphony Orchestra to celebrate the 75th birthday of the great cellist and conductor Mstislav Rostropovich - "Slava" to his friends. The music ranges from Musorgsky and Ravel through Prokofiev and Rachmaninov, Bartok and Bernstein , to a birthday commission from Georgian composer Giya Kancheli, featuring violinist Gidon Kremer: 2 Great Slava from 2 GKs. Performers include: Gidon Kremer and Maxim Vengerov (violins), Yuri Bashmet (viola), Martha Argerich and Evgeny Kissin (pianos), conductors Colin Davis, Mariss Jansons, Zubin Mehta, Krzysztof Penderecki and Seiji Ozawa
