The Last Day
Renee Feather and Bill Edmondson have spent all their working lives in the textile mills of north Lancashire - but today is their last day. 'I don't want to retire,' says Renee, 'but I've had to.'
Renee and Bill have seen many changes since they both began working at the age of 14. 'There are only two mills left in Nelson today, but when I started there was one on every corner.' 'When you hear of a mill being closed, you feel as though part of your body has been cut off.' Their lives have altered in other ways. There is now more unemployment, more violence in the streets. There are more Asian mill-workers, but fewer brass bands. As they face the new world of retirement, how do Renee,
Bill and their families see the future in their beloved Lancashire?
