Face to Face

on BBC Two England

Introduced by Joan Bakewell.
John Freeman 's first ever guest on face to Face, in 1959, was Lord Birkett - one of the most famous cross-examiners of his day. Murder was his speciality: he spoke at the trials of Dr Ruxton, Alfred Arthur Rouse and Clarence Hatry. Here Lord Birkett reflects on his life at the Bar, on being a judge, and on his involvement in the Nuremberg trials.
