The 1984 Formula One World Championship German Grand Prix
1984 is fast turning into a benefit year for the McLaren team. NIKI LAUDA'S superb victory at Brands Hatch a fortnight ago took him within 1½ points of team-mate and championship leader ALAIN PROST. The Woking-based team are so far ahead in the Constructors' Championship that they would have to fail in all the remaining races not to take that title. But in the Drivers Championship any one of six could still head off the Prost/Lauda combination if they falter. Among those chasing are Britain's DEREK WARWICK , whose stunning second place at Brands Hatch renewed his challenge, and RENÉ ARNOUX, in the points two weeks ago and winner on this fast course last year in his Ferrari.
