Conceived as a successor to Der Rosenkavalier,
Arabella was Strauss's last collaboration with his favourite librettist von
Hoftnannsthal. A charming, sentimental comedy, it is set in the Vienna of 1860 and tells of a girl's romantic meeting with 'the right man'. Act 1: The Salon of Waldner's Apartment
