The terrifying and secret ritual for selection, and the lonely enclosed existence within temple or palace walls, is only now becoming more widely known. But on the occasion of the spectacular Indra Jatra Festival the Royal Kumari, the most acclaimed living Goddess in Nepal, is paraded for all to see. But for her it is a very rare glimpse of the outside world, to which eventually she must return.
