BBC Proms 1996

on BBC Radio 3

From the Royal Albert Hall, London.
Tonight, a Proms debut for a new Spanish orchestra of young players who revel in the sounds of their own country. Ravel re-creates the obsessive insistence of the dance, and Rodrigo revisits the elegant spring palace of the kings of Spain. Gerhard - whose centenary falls this year - contributes a chilling, impressionistic setting of Camus's story La Peste.
Narrator Michael Pennington.
