When the circus showman Jimmy Chipperfield and Lord Bath released 50 wild lions into Longleat Park in 1965 the press branded them as ' madmen '.
But the success of the Safari Park idea was born of generations of Circus life. Jimmy was once a clown, juggler, wirewalker and circus manager. Today his daughter Mary is renowned as a tiger trainer-and his son John helped set up 27 safari parks and zoos across the world.
They filmed their own exciting record of circus life - and catching elephants and giraffes in the African bush.
