An opera in one act Words by BÈLA BALÁZS
English version CHESTER KALMAN Music by Bartok Sadler 's Wells Opera at the London Coliseum
Bartok's only opera was written in 1911. The plot bears little resemblance to Perrault's fairytale, being heavily laden with the symbolism then fashionable. It Is a parable of the unbridgeable gap in the relations of man and wife.
