on National Programme Daventry

View in Radio Times

This title has been chosen for a new series of broadcasts by the BBC Variety Orchestra because it is the name given by members of orchestras in Variety theatres to the period allotted to the entr'acte—a time when the orchestra may show what it can do. Intermission will be made up of novelty numbers and solo pieces. A second broadcast will be given on October 27, and a third some time in November. Charles Shadwell was for six years musical director of the Coventry Hippodrome, from which he gave regular weekly broadcasts, before joining the BBC in May to take Kneale Kelley 's place.
