Just before Francois Mitterrand arrives in London on a visit to Mrs Thatcher , OLIVIER TODD reports on the style and substance of the new French President's first 100 days in office. This specially extended film shows Mitterrand in action both inside and outside the Elysee. He is seen in public at Ottawa, in private in his own back garden. The film examines some of the critical issues facing the new government and also looks at some of its more controversial decisions.

He also discovers what sort of a pupil Monsieur Mitterrand turned out to be during his first lesson in the command post under thp Elysée from which the President controls France's independent nuclear force.
