on BBC Two England

starring Jean-Pierre Leaud
Truffaut's first film won the coveted best direction prize at Cannes in 1959. Brilliantly photographed in the Eiffel Tower neighbourhood of Paris, it is an autobiographical film, stemming from the 27-year-old director's adolescence and years in a reform school.
