Tonight Jan van Eyck (c 1390-1441) The Madonna and Chancellor Rolin at the Louvre, Paris in which the artist depicts the tough, calculating Chancellor to the Duke of Burgundy on an imaginary visit to the Virgin and Child in the Court of Heaven, against a magnificent background of the real world, or perhaps the New Jerusalem.
