A Consultant's Problems
Bolton's Orthopaedic Consultant is deeply concerned. His problem is cross-infection because of bacteria in operating theatres. Antibiotics will shift sepsis from infected flesh but orthopaedic patients are bone-damaged, and sepsis in bones is almost impossible to clear.
Grappling with the problem, the Health Authority has authorised an infection-free operating theatre. But the building operation contaminates the other two theatres, and surgeons refuse to operate until a temporary theatre is put in. But who will make room for the temporary theatre?
