Young Musician of the Year

on BBC Two England

Tonight's five finalists have all won their categories on solo performances. Having fought off 600 entrants, they now have to play a concerto, accompanied by the National
Youth Orchestra of Great Britain.
Opera North's Paul Daniel conducts from the Barbican Centre, London, and Sarah Greene presents.
If this year's winner is as lucky as his or her predecessor, pianist Frederick Kempf , life will be quite different after the competition. The publicity
16-year-old Freddy received earned him concert after concert, and he is now so busy touringthe country that his parents have had to move house to be nearer the motorway.
The 1994 Young Musician of the Year will receive a bursary of £2,500 and a travel award from competition sponsors Lloyds
Bank. HRH the Duchess of Kent will present the prizes.
You can register your own vote at the end of the concerto final. Lines will open after the five performances have been heard. The numbers to call are: competitor no 1: [number removed] competitor no 2: [number removed] competitor no 3:[number removed]competitor no 4: [number removed] competitor no 5:[number removed] Your vote will not affect the result in the hall, but the viewers' choice will be announced at the end of the programme.
