Introduced from Sandwich by Steve Rider.
Golf: the Open
The final round of the 122nd
Open from Royal St George's, Sandwich. Last year, an emotional Nick Faldo fought off a brave late challenge by American John Cook to win a memorable third Open title in six years. Faldo's first Open success came at Muirfield in 1987 when he took the title with a faultless final round of 18 pars. He won the title for a second time in 1990 at
St Andrews. In addition to
Faldo, Greg Norman ,
Seve Ballesteros , Mark Calcavecchia and Ian Baker-Finch have all been crowned Open champions since the last championship at Sandwich. Ryder Cup star
Jose-Maria Olazabal achieved his best Open finish at Muirfield last year in third place and many believe it is time the talented Spaniard won his first major. Other leading players hoping to be in the running include US Masters champion Bernhard Langer , Britain's Ian Woosnam , and America's Paul Azinger. Commentary by Peter Alliss , Bruce Critchley , Alex Hay , Dave Marr , Clive Clark , Mike Hughesdon ,
Dougie Donnelly and Mark McCormack. TV presentation John Shrewsbury
