A Newsnight special
Tonight, throughout Europe, the votes are counted for the elections to the European Parliament. For the UK, it's the first major test of national opinion since last year's General Election and the results should provide interesting answers to the key questions: can the Conservatives withstand a strong challenge from Labour under Neil Kinnock's leadership? Can Labour achieve its declared intention of 30 seats? Can the SDP/Liberal Alliance do well enough to support its claims to be the real party of opposition?
With the first declaration in the UK due around 9.45, John Tusa presents full coverage of the results, with computer analysis by Peter Snow. Newsnight correspondents in Bonn, Paris and Rome assess the significance of the results in other EEC countries; and there's expert interpretation from Professor Tony King, with Sir Robin Day seeking the views of from leading politicians.
