Composer of the Week: Offenbach: 4: La Vie Parisienne

on BBC Radio 3

With Donald Macleod.

Offenbach might have been born German, but by the 1860s he epitomised "gay
Paree", indeed with his operetta for the Great Exhibition of 1866 he might even have done something to invent the notion, with its vivid portrayal of Parisian street life. La Vie Parisienne (excerpts)
